Preferences - General

 

Introduction

These settings allow you to control the various features in HotDog. To edit your general settings:

  1. On the Edit menu, select Preferences submenu.

  2. Select General on the tree view of the Preferences dialog.

Only Allow One Instance of HotDog to Run at One Time

Check this option to limit HotDog to only one runable instance of itself at any one time. However, even with this option checked, multiple instances of HotDog can be run if the ‘/m’ command parameter is used. eg HotDog6.exe /m.

Open New Document on Startup

Each time you start HotDog, a new document ready for editing can be automatically created.

Restore Last Session on Startup

Any documents you had open last time you closed HotDog can be automatically re-opened when you start HotDog. The documents will be opened in the same order that they were in when you last shut HotDog down.

Autosave Every XX Minutes

In case your computer crashes, HotDog can automatically save your work at a specified interval. Use this option to tell HotDog how often to save your documents. About 5 minutes is a good number. Remember to set an Auto-Save directory for your files to be saved to.

Undo / Redo Level

HotDog supports almost unlimited Undo/Redo level. However, to save on memory you can force HotDog to remember only a few levels of undo.

Create Backup Files

HotDog can automatically create backup files for you. These files have a ‘bak’ extension. Each time you save a file, your penultimate save is saved as the backup. This is useful for those rare occasions when you accidentally save over a file you wanted to keep.

Refresh External Browser Preview on Save

When you save your document, your external browser can be automatically refreshed. This option is useful when you are working a large file with many saves.

File Dialogs Use Current Directory

Whenever you attempt to save or open a file, the file dialog can display the default directory for your task (as specified by the directories preferences or the directory that you last used.

File Dialogs With a File Preview Window

If you want a quick preview of your files when opening documents check this option.

Dialogs Display Accessibility Options on Loading.

By default HotDog automatically displays accessibility options with each dialog. Accessibility is a very important aspect of good webpage design, however if you wish to turn this option off, just untick this check box.
